DID & ENS Guide
Your iCloser DID is an ENS name in the format name.id.idao.eth — a subdomain under idao.eth. Mint it once, use it everywhere in the iCloser ecosystem.
What is your iCloser DID?
Your iCloser DID (Decentralized Identifier) is an ENS name — a human-readable, self-sovereign identity that resolves to your wallet address on the blockchain. It takes a specific format:
For example, if you choose the name alice, your full DID becomes alice.id.idao.eth. This ENS name is permanently associated with your wallet and acts as your identity across all iCloser products and partner services.
Your DID belongs to you — it is controlled by your private key, not iCloser. No one can revoke or transfer it without your wallet's signature.
Because it is an ENS name, your DID resolves across any ENS-compatible application. One identity, usable everywhere.
Instead of showing a 42-character wallet address, your DID displays a readable name like jim.id.idao.eth.
iCloser does not store or retain your identity documents. Your ENS name on-chain is the only identity record iCloser holds.
How to mint your DID
Minting registers your chosen name as an ENS subdomain under idao.eth and binds it to your iCloser wallet. Complete the steps below inside the iCloser iOS app.
In the app, tap the DID or Identity option in the navigation. This is separate from the main wallet screen.
Enter the name you want. The app will show you the resulting DID in real time — for example, entering alice shows alice.id.idao.eth. Names are lowercase letters and numbers only.
The app verifies that the name is not already registered. If taken, choose a different name. Each DID name is unique across the id.idao.eth namespace.
Approve the in-app minting flow. The registration is recorded on-chain and your name.id.idao.eth DID is created. This may take a few moments to confirm.
After confirmation, your DID appears in the Identity section. The status will show as Active. You can now use it to apply for VA Financial Infrastructure, Black-Gold Visa access, and other services that require a verified DID.
Why DID is required for certain services
Several iCloser features require an active DID as a prerequisite. Your name.id.idao.eth identity is the binding that links your on-chain wallet to regulated financial services.
- VA Financial Infrastructure (USD Virtual Account) — A verified DID is mandatory before you can apply for a Virtual Account. The VA is provided by a licensed partner institution and your DID is used to tie your on-chain identity to the financial infrastructure application.
- Black-Gold Visa — card eligibility requires a verified DID alongside KYC completion. Your DID (via Didit KYC) helps confirm your identity for partner-issued card access.
- High-Trust Circles — Social trust circles within iCloser use your DID as the identity anchor for membership and reputation.
- Partner Services — Third-party integrations that require identity proof will read your name.id.idao.eth ENS name as your verified identity.
Understanding the idao.eth ENS structure
ENS (Ethereum Name Service) is a decentralized naming system built on Ethereum. iCloser uses ENS to provide human-readable, wallet-linked identity names under the idao.eth domain.
The top-level ENS name owned and managed by iCloser's identity infrastructure. It is the namespace root from which all user DIDs are issued.
All user DIDs are minted as subdomains under id.idao.eth. The id layer separates DID identity names from any other possible uses of the idao.eth namespace.
Each registered name becomes its own ENS subdomain. Example: jim.id.idao.eth resolves to Jim's wallet address and is his DID across the entire iCloser ecosystem.
Because the DID is an ENS name, it resolves to a wallet address on-chain. Any ENS-compatible service can read name.id.idao.eth and resolve it to the owner's public address without involving iCloser.
